1:1800 USS Hornet (CV-8)

1:1800 USS Hornet (CV-8)

The USS Hornet (CV-8) was an Aircraft Carrier of the United States Navy, she was a Yorktown class Carrier.  She could carrier ~72 Aircraft. She has a somewhat different look compared to the Yorktown (CV-5) and Enterprise (CV-7), mainly in island-layout and main mast. Also the placement of the quad 1.1 inch guns is a little different.

She was sunk during the Battle of Santa Cruz Islands in October 1942. She did not go easy, the USN tried to scuttle the Hornet, using torpedoes, off which many failed to explode and over 400 5-inch shots from USN Destroyers could not sink her. After the USN Destroyers steamed away, as IJN forces entered the area, the Hornet was sunk by 4 Long Lance torpedoes from the IJN DD's Makigumo and Akigumo.

The ship is modeled with mid-1942 Armament.

The printed example is in 1:1000th scale. NOTE: The base is not included
