1:2400 Hr Ms Johan Maurits van Nassau 1940 (No Base)

The Johan Maurits van Nassau was a gunboat of Netherlands Royal Navy. Build in the early 1930's and served in the early part of World War 2. On may 10th in Vlissingen she was attacked by German Aircraft was not hit but did shot down 1 Aircraft. 12th may she was ordered to attack a German 88mm Gun-Battery of the 1.Kavalleriedivision near the Afsluitdijk, the Battery was silenced from a distance of 18 km. German aircraft did attack in retaliation, but the ship was not damaged.

May 14th she was ordered to evacuate to, together with 5 other Dutch navy ships, on the way to England the convoy was attacked by German aircraft, she was hit which caused a fire near an ammunition stack, the ship was abandoned and sunk with 17 crewman killed.

 

The May 1940 setup, one twin 40mm Bofor setup added on the rear-bridge deck and the sloops are now stored on the deck.
